Together, our mission as a committee of concerned homeless service
providers is to addresses the complex issues and challenges faced by
homeless people living in Pittsburgh.
Most homeless people
are living in shelters or doubling up with families and friends. On any
given night in Pittsburgh, it is estimated
that there are more then 2,000 people who are homeless. This population
can benefit from the homeless support services that are organizations
can provide them.
People who live on the streets represent less then 10% of the total
homeless population in Pittsburgh. These individuals are usually single
adults struggling with chronic illness such as addiction to drugs or
alcohol, serious mental disabilities, or both. Many are veterans. Many
have been on the streets for several streets on any given night in
Pittsburgh.
